Inter-American Dialogue (1155 15th St NW Suite 800, Washington, DC 20005)
While there has recently been a lot of attention paid to
Mexico, most of it has focused on its relations with the Trump
administration and particularly regarding trade and migration. Mexico
has seen advances on the domestic front, but it still confronts enormous
political, economic and social challenges. Security and corruption are
high on the national agenda and remain serious concerns. President Peña
Nieto pursued important reforms, but these confront difficulties that
are likely to figure prominently in the public debate in advance of the
next presidential elections in July 2018. Meanwhile, many Mexicans are
left to wonder what a path forward might look like.
The Dialogue is pleased to host Denise Dresser, one of Mexico’s most visible and influential political analysts, for this wide-ranging discussion on her country’s national challenges and what should be done to address them.
