This week’s release of the
U.S. News & World Report college rankings
contains very few surprises. Ivy League schools dominate the top ten,
and non-Ivy elite schools such as Stanford and the University of Chicago
remain permanent fixtures in the single digits. Given that the U.S.
News list represents only a tiny sliver of the nation’s 4,600
degree-granting colleges, perhaps it doesn’t deserve so much media
attention.
