Almost four months after the accord with the FARC was approved by
Congress, many of Colombia’s implementation challenges are still to
come. As the guerrillas demobilize, the government must work to
guarantee security, promote economic development, and protect justice
and human rights across broad swaths of territory. Meanwhile, coca
production has spiked in recent years and there are concerns about the
fight against corruption and organized crime. In this context, Colombian
voters are also looking ahead to legislative and presidential elections
in 2018.
